Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised course, taught in 23 countries around the world. Our instructors deliver both the classroom-based and online versions of the mental health first aider 2-day course, providing learners with an in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing. Participants will gain practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of a range of mental health issues, and the confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress using the Mental Health First Aid action plan.

The course supports the creation and maintenance of mentally healthy workplaces and communities by empowering participants to have the knowledge and skills to support their colleagues, clients, friends, and family. Make a commitment to supporting positive wellbeing and tackling stigma by becoming part of MHFA England’s campaign to train 1 in 10 people in mental health first aid, and make a real difference today.

Workplace Wellbeing Services

Workplace wellbeing and employee resilience are at the heart of developing healthy, high performing organisations.

We offer a range of resources to assess and support individual, team, and organisational need, including delivery of ‘WRAW’ (Workplace Resilience & Wellbeing): the world’s first psychometric survey and tool to measure resilience and its impact on wellbeing in the workplace. Workshops for resilient people, leaders and teams also provide targeted input where it is needed most.

We can also deliver mental health awareness training workshops for employees and managers to help your business to reduce stigma around mental health, and to support employees by creating a working environment and culture that respects and involves every individual.

Absence Management and Return to Work

Our highly skilled and experienced vocational rehabilitation consultants provide impartial assessments and case management solutions for when your organisation needs support to manage repeated or long-term absence, or to help employees with disabilities, health conditions and injuries to achieve a safe and sustainable return to work.

Vocational rehabilitation (VR) takes a holistic view towards helping people with health problems to stay at, return to and remain in work. Contact us to see how we can help you to proactively support your staff to manage health conditions in the context of work, resulting in improved employee retention, reduced training and recruitment costs, and better performance.

Sleep Management

Getting good sleep is vital to our wellbeing. Well rested people are happier, physically and mentally healthier, less irritable, and more productive. Yet these days more and more people report insomnia and disrupted sleep, particularly in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and the changes this has brought to our work and home lives and routines.

We are trained and licensed to use the evidence based R.E.S.T. CBT for Insomnia (CBTi) programme, as developed by Sleep Unlimited. Read on to find out more about our assessment, treatment, and workshops, aimed at helping you to better understand how sleep works, and how to manage and improve sleep.

Counselling and Psychotherapy

Our qualified and experienced counsellors listen and provide support in dealing with emotional issues. We offer talking therapies combined with practical approaches such as utilising tools from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). We employ an integrative approach, meaning that we will use the techniques most appropriate to each individual, to help them achieve their desired treatment outcome. Our counsellors provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space, whether in short-term, long-term, or single session solution focussed therapy.

The impact of poor mental health

Data published from the Office for National Statistics’ (ONS) Labour Force Survey in November 2019 found that that 17.5 million working days were lost in the preceding year due to mental health-related sickness absence.

The annual cost of poor mental health amounts to a cost per employee of between £1,205 and £1,560 per year. This is much higher for certain sectors, such as finance, insurance and real estate, and professional services. Stevenson / Farmer Report – Thriving at Work 2017.

In 2018/19, stress, depression or anxiety accounted for 44% of all work-related ill health cases and 54% of all working days lost due to ill health. ONS November 2019.

“Only 24% of managers have received some form of training on mental health at work”. Stevenson / Farmer Report – Thriving at Work 2017.

“Poor mental health costs UK employers between £33 – £42bn each year…”

The Deloitte Monitor Review of 2017

The Deloitte Monitor Review of 2017 estimated that poor mental health costs UK employers between £33 – £42bn each year, with over 50% of these costs being down to presenteeism, and the remainder split equally between absence and turnover costs. Their updated report in January 2020 found that these costs had increased by 16% over the past 2 years, to a cost of £45bn per annum to UK employers. The Deloitte mental health and employers report (refreshing the case for investment) 2020, makes a positive case for investment in mental health by employers, finding an average return of £5 for every £1 spent, up from the £4 to £1 return identified in 2017.
