It’s impossible to keep all employees healthy all of the time: that’s just not how human beings work. So when your organisation needs support to manage repeated or long-term absence, to help employees with disabilities, health conditions and injuries to achieve a safe and sustainable return to work, or to help people with ill health to maximise or improve performance, we are here to offer impartial guidance.
We are able to support with all health conditions whether physical or mental health related, including complex neurological presentations such as brain injury or stroke, and issues such as working with cancer, menopause, or Long Covid.
By proactively supporting employees to manage health conditions in the context of work, you will improve retention, reduce training and recruitment costs, and help all your employees to reach their full potential.
Return to Work / Disability Management Assessment
Assessments are offered on a remote or face-to-face basis, depending on complexity and need. We will discuss your needs with you based on completion of a triage referral form. Please contact us to make a referral.
The assessment will consist of interviews with both the line manager and employee (and any additional parties such as Human Resources if required), and review of any medical information, records, and job description as appropriate/available.
The report will summarise the situation, strengths and barriers as seen by both parties, and present recommendations to overcome the barriers. It will help you to understand what reasonable adjustments and other actions may be required, and what your responsibilities are under the Equality Act 2010.
Case Management
Case management will be provided to assist the relevant parties to implement the recommendations and adjustments, so you can be sure you have the benefit of our expertise until resolution of the case. For continuity and to ensure support is provided in a timely fashion, a case management allowance of 3 or 5 hours is built into the assessment cost. Additional case management may be recommended for more complex cases.
Costs:
Telephone Assessment, report, and up to 3 hours remote case management – £950 plus VAT
Face-to-face Assessment, report, and up to 5 hours remote case management – £1,450 plus VAT
Additional Options
Ergonomic/Worksite Assessment – on quotation
Functional Capacity Assessment (to assess function against a specific role / general functional capacity for work – on quotation
Case Management – £120 per hour plus VAT
The Vocational Rehabilitation Approach
Vocational rehabilitation (VR) is about helping people with health problems to stay at, return to and remain in work. It works on the bio-psycho-social model rather than the more traditional and over-medicalised approaches to health and work. In fact, the evidence base behind VR demonstrates that most people with common health problems can be helped to return to work by following a few basic principles of healthcare and good workplace management. This can often be done with existing or minimal additional resources, and is therefore relatively low cost. (Waddell, Burton & Kendall)
Vocational rehabilitation is an efficient and collaborative approach that can often replace the need for a more medically based occupational health assessment, making it an especially useful and cost-effective approach for small to medium enterprises. VR can equally sit alongside traditional human resources and occupational health programmes, particularly in more complex cases. A key benefit of VR is that unlike an occupational health assessment which does not usually offer any ongoing support as to how to interpret or implement the information and recommendations provided in the report, VR provides the necessary links and follow-up support to achieve the required outcomes.
The Stevenson Farmer Thriving at Work Report 2017
The Stevenson Farmer Thriving at Work Report 2017 recommends employers provide support for all employees, including those with long-term mental health conditions, to thrive, and more targeted and tailored support for those who may need it (including to those who are ill and/or off work).
The report also states that much of ‘what works’ to support all employees to thrive can be effectively applied to individuals with serious illnesses. If appropriate measures are put in place from day one, and there is culture and environment where both employee and employer can be open to discussing potential challenges and options, this can reduce fears for both the employee and employer.
